Sagebrush: A Church Review

Sagebrush church is a church in New Mexico. They have several campuses and reach thousands of people through their online streams and on TV. Their lead Pastor is Todd Cook with many other pastors there to help with the very large congregation they have.

Now I live no where near New Mexico, but my extended family does. That's how I first heard about this church and checked them out online back in 2016. I had the opportunity to visit my family a few years back in 2018 and, of course, I wanted to visit the church in person. It's a beautiful big campus and definitely different to any other church I've been to with a large room for gathering for service. It has upper and lower seating and reminds me of going to a play or something in a big theater. They keep the lights down low to make it easier to see the stage and to make it easier to film the stage.

Now for the service, the music is definitely loud and more modern. t feels like going to a Christian concert - which I kinda like, but I know it's not for everyone. They have a very talented group that leads worship and I truly appreciate the effort they go to especially when I am watching the live stream at home. The only thing I struggle with sometimes is they aren't very diverse in song selections. They tend to stick the same ones for the most part every week. Sometimes I have a hard time getting into the songs if I hear them all the time, but sometimes it's just what my soul needs to sing and praise without trying to learn new words.

The media crew also does an amazing job. They put together some top notch videos and animations for the sermons. I would personally love to be on the crew and totally would be if I ever moved down there. They make videos based around the theme for the sermon series and some can be impactful, some just give a good prequel to get you thinking, some are funny, and so on. They also come together with the worship team to create some really beautiful music videos especially for holidays and special occasions.

Now for the sermons - which really is my favorite part. No pastor I have ever met or seen captures an audience like Pastor Todd Cook. It is no question that this was God's calling for his life. He knows how to really hit home when he preaches that teaches you something new and makes you want to live for God anew. I have been a Christian most of my life and I can't find any issues with anything Todd preaches. My family watches him too (seasoned and wise Christians) and they agree with me. He presents the word of God as it is written and doesn't take away, change, or add to it. He is also very down to earth and funny. Him having so much help from other pastors I'm sure makes a difference because he has more time to focus on his sermons.

They also have some great stuff for kids and young adults. They both have their own lessons they can watch on Sunday and they have lots of activities for them (usually. A little less now because of Covid-19).

The one thing I wish I could participate in is there big events they do throughout the year. They usually do a big trunk-or-treat event for Halloween with lots of amazing made characters like Spiderman crawling up the side of a building. They also usually have a big event for Christmas and Easter. This year they did Stages of the Cross for Easter where people were led in groups through the story of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. I really wish I could have been there for that.

Don't get me wrong I love going to my local church and connecting with local believers and hearing what my pastor has to teach us, but I love this church too and it really helped me when Covid-19 first started and I couldn't go to my local church. This church just has so much going on that I love. I usually do both services on Sunday mornings now to get my week started off right.

Thank you so much for reading my thoughts on this amazing church. I hope you check it out. Here is a link to their website. Please like and subscribe to my blog for more articles like this. Have a blessed day!
