I'm sure many people know what a wish bracelet is. In fact it's what gave me this idea for a prayer anklet.
So let me start off by saying I got a couple of wish bracelets for Christmas. They are pretty, but I'm not a bracelet person most of the time. I wear one on occasion, but I tend to be bothered with something on my wrist. Sometimes even my rings bother me because I work a lot with my hands.
Anyway so I decided to tie the bracelet around my ankle. Now for the next little tidbit about me...I don't believe in wishing. Just hang in there with me for a second. For a long time I have felt wishing to be silly. It's like you are asking the universe to grant you something that it can't make happen. It will either happen or it won't and that superstition that if you tell someone your wish, it won't come true, doesn't make sense. I know you are thinking: but it's just for fun? Yes it is, but a small part of you is still hoping that wish will come true.
So I believe in prayer. Why not ask the real and loving God to grant your wish in the form of a prayer? So for many years whenever something like wishing on a coin to toss in a fountain or wishing before I blow out my birthday candles came up, I would make a prayer wish request. God can make my dreams come true. Sometimes I use these special opportunities to pray for something silly like a horse, but often I pray for something that's on my heart.
So that loops around back to the prayer anklet. I turned my wish bracelet into a prayer anklet and made a special prayer when I put it on. Now whenever I feel that anklet, I lift up that prayer again to God. I end up being reminded and praying for that request a lot. Which is great! How often do you intend to pray for someone or something and get distracted by life. In this way I choose one thing and I will pray for that one thing until it falls off, then I can put on a new anklet (probably on the other foot as to not get too used to the feeling).
So how the prayer anklet works:
Get yourself one.
It's made just like a wish bracelet. You can choose to make one yourself with a few beads and hemp string or buy one. I have some in my shop here for a few dollars or you can look around for other sellers (I care more that you pray than that you get it from me).
Decide what or who you want to pray for.
Search the Holy Spirit and figure out what you should be praying for. When you have it, pray that prayer as you tie it around your ankle (you can use your wrist if you prefer).
Keep praying.
Every time you feel or see your anklet you will be reminded of the prayer request and I encourage you to pray again. Nothing long and wordy, but just a simple prayer giving that thing over to God again.
When it falls off.
You are ready to move on and pray for something else when the anklet falls off. Don't be discouraged if you didn't see your prayer request answered. God is always working and more may be going on than you know. I believe that when the anklet falls off, it's because God wants you to pray for something else. He heard your prayers and is working on it. It may not always end up with the answer you wanted, but He is Good and is working everything together for Good.
Repeat this process with new prayer anklets.
I encourage you to switch ankles, maybe put it on your wrist once in awhile to try to keep the feeling of that reminder there each time. You will surely get used to it if you keep putting it in the same spot.
I think prayer is really important and most of us don't do it enough because it can feel like a lot of work. That's why I feel it's important to switching things up. Praying is a great way to strengthen our faith and our relationship with God who longs to spend time with us. This prayer anklet is a good step toward building that relationship.
Don't worry about anything: instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done.
