The Book of Amazing Stories by Robert Petterson is a devotional packed with a full years worth of interesting historical stories that I bet you have never heard about. From Hitler to Babe Ruth it has it all.
At the beginning of this year I was looking around for a devotional that my husband and I could do together. I wanted something kinda light and interesting but still had a Christian lesson to get you thinking. I knew this book was perfect when I came across it because my husband loves history. We will go out for walks and he will regale with the history and stories about where we are walking.
Anyway so this book truly has a lot of interesting stories about people and events from history. The devotionals like to keep you in suspense as you read them and has you wondering who they are talking about. They don't reveal the name until near the end. Some left us shocked and I've even double checked the facts on a few. Sure enough these stories are true. It makes me realize this book must have taken a very long time to put together.
The one thing that I have to say it is lacking is a strong lesson at the end. A few have really good applications and have left me thinking about it afterward, but most are very mild. The lesson is a little bit of an after thought unfortunately.
It works for me and my husband because it's something that we bond over and do together.
I recommend this devotional for anyone really. It's interesting for adults and I would say it's good for mature teenagers. It is really great for Christians that are new to the faith because I think it gets them used to devotionals and getting into a habit of doing them on a regular basis without being heavily convicted all the time.
We are only a few months into the book and I can't wait to see what else is in store for us the rest of the year.
