My pick of the month is a little older. These movies came out around the turn of the century and center around eschatology. The first movie has the rapture and the following three are about a world run by the anticrist and what they believe it could look like.
Let me start off by saying I wish these movies had kept going. They kinda leave off in the middle of the tribulation unfortunately like all the other movies that attempted to tell the end times tale because there is never enough funding. I applaud them for trying and getting farther than others.
The first movie "Apocalypse" 1998, starts off about two news anchors for the One World News station, Helen Hannah and Bronson Pearl, who are reporting the coverage of the potential threat of lots of countries sending off nuclear bombs at each other and end up reporting the millions of people that suddenly vanish. The antichrist comes on the scene and declares himself God and explains why he made all he people vanish and how he has saved them. The movie continues to follow Helen and Bronson as they try to uncover the truth.
The second movie, "Revelation" 1999, follows the antichrist making everyone choose the mark of the beast and it is done in a very interesting way. Everyone gets a virtual reality helmet that is so much more than just a virtual reality helmet and in there they talk to the antichrist. There they have the choice to take the mark or die. I won't ruin the movie for you, but it is crazy how the writers thought this concept up and with our technology these days it wouldn't be so far fetched for this to actually be a thing in the future.
*One note: I found this movie of the four to be the most jarring and I would definitely not recommend it for younger viewers. It had some moments that were shocking.
The third movie, "Tribulation" 2000, is about another man entirely (don't worry it links up the other characters later in the movie). He was in a coma for the first two movies and is awakened to discover the new world. We go through the events unfolding through his perspective as well as learn his own backstory.
The final movie, "Judgement" 2001, follows one of the characters being put on trial for "their hatred for humanity" and it winds up with God on trial. Very interesting preceding which reminded me of out movie last month "God's not Dead 2". It all ends in an amazing way, of course, but it doesn't wrap up the tribulation. We don't get to see Jesus come back or Satan be cast into Hell, but still a good movie to watch with good arguments.
There are a few small spots that don't necessarily line up with scripture, like there was no signing of the peace treaty between Palestine and Israel to begin the Tribulation per se and there are a lot of things left out, but you get the gist. Some of the ideas in these movies about the end times and tribulation are very thought provoking. We all have ideas on how we think things will go down and I can see some of their ideas realistically unfolding sometime in the future - which is a little scary.
Overall, I enjoyed these movies and I hope you will Gove them a try if you have never seen them before. The end is closer now than it ever has been for and we can see. Jesus commands us to know what season we are in and be ready. These movies can give you a heavenward focus to share Jesus with your loved ones so that they won't have to go through all this.
