Wrote this cute story back in high school. Enjoy!
Once there was a bird and a chipmunk. The chipmunk was busy gathering nuts and grass and storing it for winter. The bird was resting on her nest watching the scenery when suddenly she flew off, dove for a worm that poked out of the ground, and soared back up to feed her babies. The tired chipmunk looked on amazed and jealous of what the bird could do.
“How do you do that?” the chipmunk asked the bird. “Walk on air like that?”
“It’s not walking on air,” she replied with a light laugh. “It’s called flying.”
“Can I fly?”
“I don’t know,” the bird said. “Why don't you give it a try?”
“What do I need to do?” the chipmunk wondered.
“Just spread your arms, flap them, and jump,” she told him, demonstrating. “You should feel the air catch you and then you can just glide.”
The chipmunk made his way over to the end of the branch and lifted his arms before he began flapping them, as the bird had showed him. He took a deep breath and jumped. Something wasn’t right, though. He was falling, not flying. His heart raced as the ground neared, but then something wrapped around his arm, slowing his descent. A moment later he was deposited safely on the ground.
“I guess you weren’t made to fly,” the bird called as she flew back to her nest.
The moral of the story is that what is food for one many be poison for another, so you should be thankful for who you are and how you were made and not be envious of others.
